A leader in crocodile conservation

I am honoured to share that the foreword to my book was written by Alphius Lipiya—a man whose integrity and dedication to conservation in Malawi shaped an era. During my time in the field, I witnessed firsthand the profound impact of his leadership. His ability to balance human needs with environmental conservation not only set the gold standard in the region but also showcased a level of professionalism that is rare in the wildlife sector.

A Legacy of Leadership

During his outstanding leadership at the Department of National Parks and Wildlife, Alphius Lipiya demonstrated an unwavering commitment to protecting both human lives and the wildlife that inhabit our ecosystems. The challenges of managing problem crocodiles required a delicate touch, and Alphius approached these situations with a unique understanding. He recognised the importance of respecting the behaviour of this ancient creature, which, much like the complexities of human interactions, doesn't conform to set rules.

A Lesson in Balance

Working alongside him during my years hunting problem crocodiles was not merely about removals but about learning the critical balance needed in conservation work. His calm authority and clear thinking created an environment that made difficult tasks safer and more manageable for everyone involved. Alphius taught us that true conservation goes beyond just the preservation of life; it encompasses respect for all creatures and their roles in the ecosystem.

Having Alphius Lipiya's voice open my story isn’t just an endorsement; it's a reminder of the values we should all embody in our pursuit of wildlife conservation. His legacy continues to inspire future generations to tackle the intricate challenges that arise when humans and wildlife intersect. As we strive to learn from his professional conduct in wildlife conservation, may we all remember the importance of integrity, dedication, and a balanced approach in our efforts to preserve the natural world.
